Meditation for Spring
Spring is the season of renewal and promise and hope.
In the natural world outside our doors,
the annual frenzy of growth is evident all around us –
in the woods, and the parks, and the gardens,
alongside the paths our feet walk,
the clean white blossom of blackthorn and hawthorn in the hedgerows,
the soft pink of the early cherry blossom,
delicate snowdrops and shy violets, bright daffodils,
and the leaves unfurling in the trees –
everywhere, there are buds and flowers and blossoms,
and shoots and leaves of a thousand different shades of green.
If we open our ears, birdsong fills the air.
May we be awake and aware,
so that the wonders of Spring
do not pass us by unheeded –
the sense of divine renewal,
the small annual miracles of the first flowers, first buds,
the first younglings of all species.
May they be a sign of hope,
a reminder that winter cannot last forever.
May we appreciate the wonder-ful dichotomy
between the revelation of the eternal round
and the revelation of that which is new:
every Spring we encounter something
never before seen, so full of new possibilities.
May this Spring be a season of renewal for us too,
when we have new resources of energy, new hope.
It is a time to have a good spring clean:
for taking stock of what we have,
for discarding the broken and the useless,
for repairing what is worn but useful,
and for setting our faces forward for the new year.

May this Spring be a time of renewal and growth.
May a good breath of fresh air
blow through our lives,
revitalising and refreshing us,
setting us on a new path in good heart.
